Let’s face it, as orthodontists we never received any formal training in how to market an orthodontic practice. Most of the people teaching us didn’t even believe in marketing! We hired someone to be our marketing director, hoping that he could take on these big projects and run with them.  We gave the poor guy long to-do lists and stacks of Burelson Seminars products still in their shrink wrap, and we barraged him with big ideas of what we wanted to do in the practice. It was a few short months later that he quit. While he did tackle some projects and make some headway, we had really only scratched the surface of what we wanted to do. Even with all of the work we had put in, we really hadn’t started to see the results. We were questioning whether all this time and money we were paying for these ideas was really worthwhile, when it was so difficult to implement them and get a system in place.

At this point, my brother Tyler took it on himself to take on these marketing projects. I’ll let him pick up the story from here.

After our marketing director quit, I went into his office and looked through his drawers. I was shocked to find Burleson seminars products still in the shrink wrap and never opened. I was dumbfounded. We had spent thousands of dollars on this stuff, and it had never even been opened? I gathered it up, took it home, and was determined to at least understand what it was we had bought.

I spent many late nights and weekends pouring through the material, and through hours of trial and error I figured out how to get all these systems in place and running in our orthodontics office. The best part was, as soon as I learned how to do it, I could train one of my staff members to do it the next time. This freed up my time so that I could tackle the next project and the next marketing system for our orthodontic practice. Soon we had a system in place. I understood the ins and outs of all of the marketing systems, and I had staff members in place to take on most of the workload. It was finally happening! All of those big to-do lists were getting crossed off, and these marketing systems were finally getting implemented.

The results we saw in our orthodontic practice from all these marketing systems were phenomenal! Every month we were getting new patients from over a dozen lead sources. We had record-breaking numbers of new patients, production, and collections four months in a row! I can honestly say that Dustin Burleson’s complex marketing systems for orthodontists absolutely work! We were finally seeing it in our own orthodontic practice.

We had our associate doctor go from part-time to full-time so that I could work even more on the marketing side of our practice. We quickly realized that the work I was doing on the business was helping us grow much more rapidly than when I was working in the business.
